I heard about the Canowindra Balloon Festival by accident and my partner was keen to attend so we booked accommodation and spent a week there, it was a must do to go for a flight.
Having done some research on the Balloon Challenge for a story on Back Roads ABC iView and found Anton Kerr’s story, it also just happened that is who we flew with, how good.
I now have 5 flights under my belt being Barossa Valley, Canberra, Hunter Valley Alice Springs and now Canowindra what a great treat and I loved the Balloon Glow on Saturday night.

This is a great place for a balloon flight, whether or not it’s your first. The operators are helpful and informative from the booking to the champagne brekky afterwards, and the Central West looks gorgeous from the air in the low sun. Check the best times of year to do it, and make it part of a weekend in a peaceful part of the country.

A must-do experience! What a gorgeous memory serenely floating over the spectacular countryside. Anton skilfully “flew” us (me, son and sister) high over ridges and skimming over wineries near Canowindra, NSW. Also very appreciative of Anton’s expert explanations of balloon flight navigation and history. We also enjoyed a lovely cooked breakfast in Montrose House in town. I HIGHLY recommend Balloon Joy Flights!
Notes: Some physical fitness required. You have to climb in and out of the wicker basket, plus part of the experience is helping to deflate and pack the balloon after landing. We found this most fun, except for my unflattering exit from the basket. LOL

Easily a 10-star recommendation. The entire Balloon Joy Flights crew were welcoming and highly experienced, with a wicked sense of humour. Anton Kerr was our man. We had a magical experience – we were fortunate enough to have perfect conditions after recent floods within the past week.
We had fun, we shared laughs, but most importantly we felt safe under Anton’s expertise. The packing-away of the balloon was half the fun, don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise. It was a hilarious bonding exercise! We had a fantastic group!
After a hearty feed at Tommy’s, who made an excellent host at Montrose House, we walked away with memories to last a lifetime. WOW. The entire experience from start to finish was simply breath-taking.

“A Dream became a Reality”
What an amazing morning. Up early, picked up on time and taken to our launch site. All instructions very clear – safety first and foremost. It was a beautiful morning crisp, misty, but sunny and just the right amount of wind. We loved our flight over the countryside looking down on fields of canola, the Having done a balloon flight overseas, I was very keen to take a flight in Australia. But where? Living in NSW I knew Canowindra was the “Balloon Capital” of the state, so it made sense to visit Canowindra. I booked a flight in 2020, but sadly the weather was against us and, as we did not have time built into our holiday, we were unable to take the flight the next day. So it was put on hold. then I booked another flight for 2021. This time a serious COVID lockdown intervened. I was unable to leave Sydney! Finally last Saturday, my husband and I made a successful flight over Canowindra on a beautiful late winter morning.
The mists and canola flowers made for a spectacular sight. Our pilot was terrific – he should be, he’s off to the World Champs in September!
Everything was very well organised, all instructions very clear. Safety did not come into our minds as we felt we were in really good hands.
Thank you Balloon Joy Flights – we had a marvellous time.
Oh, and did I mention the sumptuous champagne breakfast after the flight – come out here and enjoy the flight and breakfast too. You won’t be disappointed!River, wildlife and domestic animals alike. Canowindra Balloon Joy Flights
This was awesome, very professional. Picked up from our motel and taken to launch site. Safety procedures followed and passed onto all ballooners. Perfect morning and conditions.
Anton was the perfect host and pilot. My husband and I absolutely loved it. We then were driven back to a guest house for a beautiful breakfast (not a sausage sanger) and champagne where Anton also gave us a bit of a history lesson on ballooning.
We highly recommend this flight and we will definately be doing this again but with our kids.

Very well organised Balloon Flight, with a very smooth take-off and landing. It was interesting to see (and help) set-up the balloon prior to the flight and pull it down at the end.

We had a fabulous balloon ride this morning with Anton. We were picked up from our accommodation and taken to the launch site where we helped to unpack the balloon. The safety talk and explanation of the process were excellent. The flight was so much fun. Relaxing and exhilarating all at the same time. After a 50 minute flight over beautiful scenery we landed in a field, without even a bump, and helped to pack up the balloon. Next came a lovely breakfast in town. What a memorable experience. Balloon Joy Flights exceeded my expectations.
This company creates an all involved experience from the moment you step inside the Troopy. The staff were fabulous and very entertaining. Attention to detail with a light and fun manner. The calm weather ensured we were offered the most serene flight perfectly timed to see the stunning sunrise and drift over the rolling hills of Canowindra. Anton, the pilot ensured we were fully informed with each step of the flight, he is very knowledgeable and maneuvered the balloon perfectly into landing. After assisting to pack away we were spoiled by Tommy @ Montrose House for a elaborate champagne breakfast. Eggs Benedict, Bacon, scrambled eggs, hash browns,toast, OJ, tea, coffee and champagne. AMAZING is an understatement!

What a wonderful experience we had. This is a family run business and you couldn’t meet a nicer family. We had a small hiccup at the start and they went over and beyond to make sure we had our flight that day as we were out of towners.
Anton our pilot was lovely and pointed many things and places out to us whilst we were flying and answered all of our questions. The guest house where we had breakfast afterwards was a delight and breaky yummy. Jan explained about the first balloon flight and said a lovely balloon prayer. Definitely recommend to anyone. You feel like you are just floating through the sky.

Loved the whole experience! Even helping to rolling out and rolling up of the balloon at the beginning and end of the trip! Our very skilled pilot Anton landed us very smoothly and upright without the basket tipping over.

We had a great experience from start to finish. This was a rescheduled flight due to poor weather last time for which we had excellent notice to change plans. There was a lot of flexibility rebooking (and I suggest you book directly with them and not through a 3rd company).

“We had our flight rescheduled twice due to bad weather. However as the first flight was the parent company in a different location and we had to go through them to rebook and there was a minimal changeover cost but going to Canowindra and not Canberra (also dates were 12 months apart). However the 2nd rebook was super easy with Jan and we also found she gave sufficient notice of a cancelled flight whereas our first one was pulled basically as we were driving to the meet location at 5am! Loads of useful communication so just couldn’t have been easier. The flight was fabulous from start to finish and the scenery beautiful. We then enjoyed a yummy hot breakfast. I highly recommend if you want to try this, do so at Canowindra.”

A morning of perfection
I received a voucher for my 50th birthday and to say I was a bit apprehensive would be putting it mildly however, from my first contact with these guys I was put at ease. Anton was our pilot and he was great. Anton explained everything to us, he went through all the safety needs and off we went. WOW. I’m so glad I took the plunge and went through with the flight. It was so peaceful and the views spectacular. Anton pointed out all the local points of interest, we flew over the canola which OMG if you ever get the chance definitely go when the canola is out. Our whole flight including the landing was perfection. We ended the tour with breakfast at Montrose House where Tommy cooked us up a feast complete with coffee, juice and champagne. We then walked the streets of Canowindra browsing through the shops. The day was perfect.

What a unique adventure! Being a part of the set up process was a great prelude to the flight, unwrapping the balloon and the sight and sound of the gas flame breathing life into it. The gentle upward glide into the sky was breathtaking and more relaxing than you would imagine, particularly in the knowledge that you are in good hands. Our pilot, Anton, was friendly, informative and highly skilled. The journey was a cross between a floating meditation over the stunningly beautiful fields of golden canola, an aerial nature study of the flora and fauna below and a sheer thrill when skimming the trees and climbing the sky. Back on the ground, a champagne breakfast and an informative chat about the history of ballooning topped off the morning. Will be back as it is a tad addictive!

Magnificent! My father and partner got flights for their birthdays and I went along for the ride. The staff are excellent, the breakfast was just so lovely and floating around the local area was just an absolute joy. We stayed at the local caravan park which was so welcoming as well. Canowindra itself is a quirky lovely spot with a really I interesting main street. DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND JUST DO IT! Definite bucket list experience

Even being a cloudy morning after overnight rain the views were great and well worth it. The flight was fantastic, we loved it.
Anton is very skillful pilot, sensationally flew so low on top of the wheat crop and just a hair width away from the leaves of the gum trees! The hospitality from your family is so warm that make us feel just like one of the family member. The breakfast after the flight was delicious, the home toasted coffee is excellent.
My wife rate the experience 10/10, will recommend to friends and colleagues.

We absolutely loved the whole experience. The hospitality and dinner there was excellent and breakfast was thoroughly enjoyed. We had assumed that we would be driven to the launching site and get on the waiting gassed up balloon to go on the flight so found the setting up and packing up a great learning experience that enhanced our enjoyment. We appreciated Graham’s running comments and knowledge throughout the experience. We will certainly will be recommending our last adventure to anyone who might be interested.

The staff enhanced the day, as did the great breakfast and spiel at Delice. We chose to stay at the Bluejacket Motel. So glad we did! Service and rooms, phenominal! And several allowances made because we were flying with Balloon Joy Flights.
